• Our third edition of video festival was finished on sunday with projection of this years video workshops. While beeing thinner in programme sense, we can still brag with relatively good visit. On three locations - City Cinema Metropol, Gallery Plevnik Kronkowska and Knežji dvor / open air cinema - there was alltogether seven connected events, visited by cca 600 visitors. Our Italian guests Massimo Premuda, Maria Campitelli and Fabiola Faidiga loved the reception. The peak of events was opening of open air cinema with photo album Faces by Robert Hutinski and Stane Špegel, and than after party in front of Metropol. Yet that is not all.

We are especially glad that so manny video / film shootings were going on in Celje this week - alltogether five of them. Believe us, this is rare, if not the first time ever. Not all of them were directly connected with our festival, but it is still a proof of a "vawe" going on in the city. Video pulse is getting stronger, and with that fact one of biggest goals of our festival is achieved.

3. INTERNATIONAL VIDEO FESTIVAL ELECTRIC RATS DREAM VIDEO DREAMS
 

They say: third time lucky. With our Electric Rats it turned out a bit different. For a variety of reasons, one of them being financial, we had no other choice but to make third festival much smaller than in the relatively huge extent of the first two. Our ultimate decision was to take the announced dates – from 2. until 5. of july – and organise »special«, video connected projections during those days. This means there is no international competition programme this year. Yet videoworkshop with Neven A. Korda will be going on. The form is published on slovenian page under button »PROGRAM« / »DELAVNICA«. The workshop is, as always, free of charge. As in our »winter workshop« it already has a title: faces of Celje.

• FACES OF CELJE: SPECIAL PROJECTION

It all started with video festival inside 3 KONS festival, and on the other hand as an upgrading of summer video workshop of International Video festival Electric Rats Dream Video Dreams. The idea came to us because of lack of intensive, continued offer of "video learning". FACES OF CELJE (or in Slovenian, Celjski obrazi) were born with an invitation to students who filmed their videos for 3 KONS; we invited them to create short films with the same theme / title. When materials will be shot, Neven A. Korda will join, and within weekend videoworkshop the shots will be edited and showed in Celje's Youth Center, which kindly enabled us with equipment. Workshop was free of charge. The videos will be shown for the first time on Sunday. Entrance free.
Works will be also shown on 3rd International Video festival Eectric Rats Dream Video Dreams, which will be going on in the first weekend of july 2009, and where the title – FACES OF CELJE – will be some kind of fill rouge.

• Deal with 19th LIFFe. Because of the programme changes in 19. International Ljubljana Film Festival - linear short films will now be competing for awards - this years "rats videos" will not be shown before long feature movies of the festival. Yet they will be, as promised, shown during the festival on plazma TVs, in the hall of Cankarjev dom. Exception is our animation winner, The Lenght of their Stay by Daniela Krajčova, since video is too long for demands of the festival.
   
• Rats are taking a rest. 3rd festival will presumably happen on the first weekend of july 2009. We will open the entries sooner - in the beginning of 2009. See you!

RATS ALSO ON LIFFe

• Last deadline for entrys for the festival has passed, yet the envelopes will still be coming to us for some time. Again we have received videos from all over the world, and from verry different artist. Video animation arrived from last year's winner of special award, Jihyun An. (With great joy we can say that the new category is verry well represented.) There's a video from Miha Mazzini (from his project simple story, which is great stuff). There's a video from Filip Peruzović, a winner of Palunko, script course from Zagreb, whose works are momentarily in Hollywood, L.A. And last but completely not the least, there's a first video by 12 years old Žan; the video is titled Dreams about Fish, and he described it like this: »Dreams about fish. Dreams become reality. In the end I eat my dreams.«
Whoever you, who sent us your video, are, you are a good company.
Even now we know that there will be at least as manny videos as last year. They will be rolling from 2. – 6.7. 2008 – all over Celje. New locations are Račka Galerry and outdoor Lapidary of Pokrajinski muzej Celje, and another location, the one that will be the place of official opening and closure of the festival, Mladinski Center Celje – Mladinski Center is this year preparing it's Media fest back to back with our festival. 
This year's author in focus is Ema Kugler.
A change hapenned: due to the works on Stari grad this years »big concert« will not be hapenning there, but in Lapidary – and the main group will be Silence. Before the concert you will be enchanted by video projection of Alterra (ex Miladoyka Youneed, Lolita, etc. members).

• Rats are scattering back.The date of this year's festival is 2. - 6.7. 2008. Entry form follows in the beginning of march!

•Some time has passed since our joy about first edition of International Video Festival Electric Rats Dream Video Dreams had to transform itself into joy for another set of conversations and decisions. We were glad about what we did the first time and how it was received, but that doesn't mean we have been blind towards our mistakes. Besides, there's always room for something new.

First of all, new things happened in our midst: our head of programme, Hana S Vodeb, had to move away from her festival responsibilities because the lack of time. Our new head of programme is a friend we know from last year's jury: Tevž Logar.

The programme of the second edition of the festival is coming together while you are reading this lines, but of course, some things are already certain, and we are glad as any young rat can be to inform you: SECOND FESTIVAL WILL BE GOING ON FROM 2. – 6.7.2008.

This years festival will be going on back – to back – with Media fest by Celjski Mladinski Center.

The ENTRY FORM for our festival will be online (and traveling through the net) from beginning of march. We wil be receiving videos until 25th of may. Watch out: there's one new category in our competitions programme as well: »computer animation.«

The jury is already decided: from the literary, film and digital waters we called 5 smart people that will decide winners in every category. Zdravko Duša is, amongst other things, mentor of Digič festival and editor of Mladinska knjiga. We wanted to become international in question of jury, and the idea of having a jury member from last festival's competition was apealing (we attend to do this every year), so we called Stanka Gjurić. She is the debitant winner of last year (Spavanje i sanjanje). Nevenka Šivavec is a custos in Celje's Likovni salon and coordinator of Celje Artist-in-residence programme. Tomaž Tomažin is a video artist, a sculptor and master of Arts that represents Slovenian younger video force. Zemira Pečovnik is one of those people that made the slovenian video scene. She may remind us that something we think is new had been done already thousand times before, and probably by her.

The video workshop will be going on just as last year and will be runned by Neven A. Korda.

Another new thing is a blog entry on the internet page, runned by Taja Zorman and Peter Zupanc. This is where you may find news before they become official and actually watch the festival in the making.

•Rats were scattered to the four winds. They escaped from the dog days and creeped into the cool holes where they can plan their return to Celje. They will tell us in autumn when they are coming. Some of them seceded from the group and started a journey. First just arrived back to Croatia with Stanka, second went to Norway to reach Jan, another achieved Ljubljana and Amir, one jumped to Poland, more precisely to Tomasz from Poznan, one is walking to German, to group Sound Nomads and the last one decided to take aeroplane directly to New York to see JiHyun. All of them will proudly represent and defend their new owners, winners and honourable winners of the first international video festival.
